Established in 1991, Muskan Productions consists of a highly qualified team of cheerful professionals headed by Dr. Lavlin Thadani. True to its name, the team believes in delivering quality work with a smile. Muskan’s Productions maiden venture Karmawali became India’s representative entry to the Cannes Film Festival. Over the last 34 years, we have made 150 films and serials for various organizations, such as Doordarshan (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), Department of Education (Ministry of Human Resource Development), Department of Publicity (Ministry of External Affairs), National AIDS Control Organization (Ministry of Health), Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (Ministry of Culture), Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), Ministry of Rural Development, the British Council, the Transport Corporation of India amongst other clients. Our wide array of work includes films on diverse topics, ranging from social issues to health and education to high profile corporate films, promos and a few ads.
Muskan Productions has made documentaries, docu-dramas and feature films. As regards social issues, we have produced many films on women empowerment, relating to serious issues sauch as witch-hunting, dowry, immoral trafficking of women and children, education of the girl child amongst others. In 1994, Muskan Productions produced a very successful and widely popular children’s series called "No Kidding". The show was a half-an-hour episodic serial designed by children themselves and aimed at educating peers through stories, improvisations, quizzes, news desk and so on. The show was Doordarshan's representative entry at the Asia Pacific Awards and the highlight was its being bought by Israel Television as well. The show is still often repeated by DD.
Muskan made an inspirational 13-episode serial on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Seher Hone Tak. It was compressed into a two-hour film Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad, which won six awards in the World Documentary Film Festival in Bali in 2017. Jeet, a feature film on witch-branding, is a pointer to our strong concern for rarely addressed social issues. It was selected by the jury to the 5th Indo-American Film Festival in New York in 2005 and received an invitation to be screened at the Nehru Centre, London, in October 2006.
Muskan Productions made history when the India Habitat Centre invited Dr. Lavlin Thadani and hosted a four-day long exclusive film festival ‘Saluting Women’ to showcase her extensive work, screening 17 of her films from the 5th to the 8th of March, 2008. What's more, 14 films out of the 17 were directed by the Chairperson of Muskan Productions, Dr. Lavlin Thadani herself, and 3 by the Dadasaheb Phalke awardee late Shri Lekh Tandon.
Sandeep Marwah (President, Asian Academy of Films and Television and Founder, Noida Film City), at the opening of the film festival, declared –
“Lavlin has broken all international records for never before has a 4-day long film festival featuring a single director’s work showcasing 17 of her films been organised anywhere in the world. Dr. Lavlin Thadani has worked very hard and with great honesty and passion to make such films. The subjects she has chosen were extremely good and the research work, which is very crucial for a film, was up to the mark.”
Muskan’s documentary on the burning issue of rape, Rape Compounded (2009), has been widely appreciated and thousands of copies have been distributed by various socially aware organizations for the prevention and management of trauma caused by the heinous crime. Muskan has made films for NGOs working for social welfare. You be the Sky (2002), a documentary based on Vipassana meditation was screened at the UN twice, and also at the Magsaysay Awardees Conference in Indonesia and was selected by the Jury at the 5th Indo-American Film Festival and at the Toronto Film Festival.
In the year 2009, Muskan forayed into the area of corporate films and made an 8-minute effective corporate film for the Transport Corporation of India (TCI). The film was much appreciated for its treatment and style. This was followed by a corporate film for Q.A. Infotech, a software-testing company. In May 2010, Muskan made promos for the prestigious G.D. Goenka World Institute and G. D. Goenka School as also their ad films.
