Godlessness is God
I travelled through the Sahara Desert
To meet God
On the edge, I saw Him
With a bouquet of exquisite thorns
I knelt and accepted His grace
With a question that escaped my parched lips,
"Why again thorns for me, Oh Lord
Can't you see plenty on my tired,
Blistered feet that bleed ...?
Is that why I walked miles to see Thee?"
"My child, thorns carry the purest water
Stored for centuries
Each thorn willing to give itself up
To quench your thirst for me
Petals fall, thorns don't
Roses are for weaker beings
You are my special daughter
For you, I carry handpicked branches
Of perfect thorns
That store pearls of nectar ... "
I smiled, and accepted the bouquet
And then l asked
"But how does this bouquet
Carry the finest fragrance
When there is no petal in sight?"
"My child, you are right
You are inhaling the fragrance
Of the flowers out there awaiting your sight"
Entering the unknown, filled with aroma
I saw colourful petals strewn on fresh grass
Their stems dry
Thirsting for droplets of water
Seeing thorns in my hands
The dying petals now happy
Found a place amongst the thorns
And stems too found their soil
Their roots began to thrive again ...
How majestic was God's game
Thousands of miles that I had walked
Were not in vain!
He whispered "Move on!"
And as I entered a new cold tundra of the Arctic
The hot sands of the Sahara
That I carried within me
Melted into the pristine snow ...
I had arrived in the vacuum
Called Godlessness
That was so clean and clear
Devoid of impurity
I could breathe in it
For a million years ...
I realized God resided
In the union of two extremes
Where neither thorns nor petals lived
Where gravity stood still
Like the breeze that halted its flow
Air that was in meditation
A light of the setting sun's glow,
It could inflame a million hearts
An ice crystal so perfect
It could lend its beauty
To humans of pure heart
Perfection visible
God invisible
Sunshine-baked
Fragrance inhaled
Love indivisible
Virgin space
Infinite
Godlessness is God!
