Let Us
The stars saw it coming
The eye of an infant saw it coming
Drops of pure water saw it too
But the human had no clue
Captive of greed
He kept felling trees
Wounding Mother Earth
Deaf to her pleas
She screamed in pain
"This is sheer madness, not gain!"
The stars heard and the infant too
The waves began gushing anew
But the human took no cue
A captive of greed
He kept felling trees
As his ruthless axe tore apart
His mother's tender, loving heart
Now barren, bereft of feminine grace
Repeatedly attacked, raped, disgraced
She lay with frozen tears in her eyes
Sick of man's hypocrisy and lies
No amount of solace could suffice
She knew he will have to pay a heavy price
"I am dying", she cried out
Her death call was so loud
That the stars heard and the infant too
The river rushed furious dark waters blue
Man still did not take the cue ...
He danced on the stumps of the trees
Oblivious of Mother Earth's anguish
And her pleas ...
He dreamt of a new posh car
His wife of a solitaire without a scar
His son of parties and booze
Intercepted with women and snooze
The sacred thread of the universe,
Mother Earth and man, once in unity,
Was long forgotten, lay broken,
Defying the great magic of the trinity
To retrieve some sanity, balance and serenity
The solar system then conspired
To save the planet Earth till infinity
"Beware of Nature's fury!"
Thundered Brahma from the angry sky
"Cease to chop trees, turning the green land dry!
Look at your mother; wounded to the core,
Whispering her last good-bye
You, the foolish, save her, love her, protect her!
How can you bear to see her cry?
Awaken now to save her, hard you must try!
You have plenty of wounded trees
Stacked in your stores
Enough to exchange mansions worth crores!"
"But I can cut a few more trees", thought the selfish man,
"Before the thundering sky pours
And then safely shut my doors!"
Vishnu could take no more -
"Time has come to settle the score!"
He beseeched Shiva to arrest and seize
Man's never ending suicidal greed
And restore some peace ...
Victim of poisonous dreams
Man paid no heed
To the infant's ever louder warning screams
"Flood the land", ordered Shiva,
"Deprive man of all his means
We need to arrest his evil thoughts
And sweep the land clean!"
The universe watched, the stars
And the infant too
As the waves swept away everything,
From the old to the new
The cars, the solitaires, the crystal wine glasses
The toothy saws, the ropes and the cruel axes
The insensitive humans now wailed in agony,
Running helter-skelter
On the very same wounded Earth,
Looking for some shelter
The TV channels covered
The tragedy of men sinister
Who lit the funeral pyres
Of their wives, children and sisters ...
Let us rebuild the bridges with the lovely trees
Let us sing to the flowers and hum with the bees
Let us revive the glory of the lovely planet Earth
And become its worthy earthlings!
